Located in the northeast of Hebei Province of China, at the west coast of Bohai Sea, neighboring the capital city of Beijing, Port of Qinhuangdao is a comprehensive international trade port mainly dealing with energy cargo transport as well as world largest coal transport port and bulk commodity port.

The port was originally built in 1898, as the only self-opened port authorized by Guang Xu, the emperor of Qing Dynasty.

The port enjoys favorable natural conditions, broad harbor area, deep water, ice-free and silt-free. It has 11.7 km coastline and covers about 11.3 square kilometers land area and 222 square kilometers water area.

The vast economic hinterland enables the port to be a main energy supplier of developed regions such as East China and South China and also a large commercial port in the region of Northeast China and North China. Main cargo types are: coal, petroleum, ore, fertilizer, grains, cement, feedstuff and etc.

The port enjoys convenient distribution conditions. Four national trunk railways are directly connected with the port with freeways and state highways linked with port distribution road. Over 170 km self-run railway with advanced engines  and marshalling yards,   5 flyovers and reconstructed port road form a rational cycled port distribution network composed of railway, highway, pipeline, marine and airlift. 100,000  dwt channels with advanced communication and navigation system always guarantee super large vessels safely passing through the narrow and long channels  utilizing  GPRS.

Port of Qinhuangdao is divided into east and west harbors. The east harbor, equipped with world topping modernized coal terminals, chiefly handles energy cargo transportation, while the west harbor, owning advanced general cargo terminal and container terminal, mainly deals with container and general bulk cargo import & export.

Total assets of the port are up to 16.8 billion yuan. 45 operation berths, 42 of which are over 10,000dwt, enables the port to unload 100,000dwt vessels and upwards. The designed annual throughput is 223 million tons.

21 dedicated coal berths, the max size of which is 150,000dwt, create a designed annual capacity of 193 million tons. Coal handling facilities with world leading technology can unload super-long trains of 20,000t. World largest coal stock yard covers an area of 2.498 million ㎡.

Port of Qinhuangdao enjoys self-contained distribution conditions with its cargo dispatching road connected with Beijing-Shenyang Freeway, arterial road and Qinhuangdao-Chengde Highway. It has superior advantages with its self-run railway combined with national trunk rainway and possessing of advanced engines and marshalling station. Five flyovers were successively built in the port and port road was reconstructed. Therefore, a rational cycled port distribution network composed of railway, highway, pipeline, marine and airlift is formed.
